DOG Name: GREER
Team Since: 2020
Phillip Furino, USMC Veteran
Philip spent eight years in the Marine Corps, where he deployed to Iraq. As a result of his experiences while in country, he was diagnosed with PTSD. Philip does not like to leave the house by himself, always having his wife or children with him when he needs to go somewhere. He is hypervigilant, suffering from severe panic attacks, severe anxiety, insomnia, frequent flashbacks, nightmares and night terrors. He feels like his PTSD has taken over every aspect of his life, creating unnecessary fear, and limiting him on what he can do. He hopes that an Assistance Dog will give him his independence and confidence back.
Philip met GREER in March 2020, and they took to each other right away! GREER is a handsome Goldador who will help Philip by alerting to rising anxiety levels, paying attention in crowded places to help minimize his hypervigilance, and anchoring to his anxiety. This will give Philip the confidence he was lacking to get out of the house, knowing that GREER has his back. He will also wake him from nightmares, allowing him more restful sleep. Together, this team will do great things!
