DOG Name: PRINCESS
Team Since: 2014
leader of the pack sponsor
Patrick Wyatt, USMC Veteran
Patrick Wyatt and PRINCESS came to paws4vets after training with another organization. PRINCESS and Patrick joined the team to further their training and so Patrick could learn how to better use PRINCESS for his mobility and stability issues. Patrick joined the United States Marine Corps in 2010 and was stationed at Camp Lejeune in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon returning home from pre-deployment Combined Arms Combat training at 29 Palms California, Patrick was involved in a motor vehicle accident which left 3 compression fractures in his cervical spine, a burst fracture in the lumbar spine, TBI, PTS, and loss of feeling and function in his lower extremities. Due to his injuries he has had multiple surgeries to clean bone fragments from his spinal cord and multiple level fusions including his C3-C7. Patrick and PRINCESS have many aspirations to become completely independent from his wheelchair for periods of time through their continued stability and mobility assistance training. PRINCESS retrieves items dropped on the ground and returns them to him, opens doors for Patrick, and she helps brace and provide support in case of falls. PRINCESS can also retrieve the wheelchair and bring it to Patrick. In his spare time, Patrick coaches a youth 15 travel lacrosse team.
