DOG name: GEORGIA
Team since: 2020
Jose Arroyo, USAVeteran
After experiencing a traumatic infancy, Jose was adopted and raised by his grandparents, and credits them with his wonderful upbringing. He served in the Army, where he injured his back. He is diagnosed with major depression and arthritis, and experiences chronic back and knee pain. Jose avoids people and places, and has lost interest in activities that he once enjoyed. He has trouble focusing and lacks motivation to get out of his house. He hopes that an Assistance Dog will give him independence and increase his quality of life.
Jose met GEORGIA, a sweet and playful Chocolate Lab, in July 2020. GEORGIA will help Jose by anchoring to anxiety, giving him that comforting focal point to help calm him, so he can continue the task at hand. She will also help retrieving items that are out of reach, and will brace when they are on uneven terrain. This will help when Jose is experiencing pain, and keep him from over-exerting himself. Jose and GEORGIA are a great pair, and we are looking forward to watching their continued growth together.
