SCPO John Flanagan, USN (ret.)
John served in the Navy as an E-8 Senior Chief, and was deployed to Iraq. Due to his time overseas John needs CROSBY to help him re-engage with his family and general public due to the severity of his PTS and physical pain. His case requires an extensive individualized program focused on addressing his physical and psychiatric disability. He is learning how to utilize CROSBY in his daily living through Intervention Transfer Training. CROSBY is specifically trained to alert John to those behind him and to keep him focused on his present surroundings. CROSBY's reactions to his stress help him acknowledge and realize the severity of his pain and anxiety. John is required to keep CROSBY calm and listen to his physical cues. CROSBY has been able to increase John’s ability to interact with his family and the general public. John has less flashbacks and anxiety attacks when CROSBY is present. He also helps him manage his pain levels and obtain a better quality of sleep. CROSBY helps him retrieve objects, go up and down stairs, decrease physical pain, recognize anxiety, and increase the quality of his family relationships.
