Heather has balance and mobility challenges due to a car accident that left her with a TBI and paralysis when she was 15 years old. She is partially paralyzed on her right side and has a slight speech impairment. She wears a brace on her right leg and a splint on her right arm. To aid in walking, she uses a cane. Heather has a sweet spirit and a determination to do things on her own.
In December 2015, Heather met COAL, an eager to please Golden Retriever. COAL will help keep Heather balanced when walking and focused when out in public. COAL will retrieve dropped items, carry items, open doors and turn lights on and off for Heather. He will decrease her anxiety as she gets frustrated when she feels she cannot do something. COAL will help Heather lead a normal life.
