Facility Dog Teams
DOG name: NIKKI
Team since: 2008
Sharon Antoszyk, PT, DPT, PCS
Sharon has her doctorate in physical therapy, and works daily with children with disabilities in the North Carolina public school system. She has always been fascinated by the animal-human relationship and the impact dogs have on the people around them. She brought her work with children and her love and understanding of dogs together when she started volunteering with paws4people in 2008 with NIKKI, her golden retriever who was trained by the paws4prisons program especially for social therapy work.
Together, she and NIKKI work to help children acquire functional skills that allow them to move forward in education and in their lives. She and Nikki also are regular visitors at a local hospital, brightening the day of people whose faces light up when they get to hug NIKKI and talk to her about the dogs they miss from home.
