Facility Dog Teams
DOG Name: DEWEY
Team Since: 2018
Laura is the Principal of Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington, a public charter school that educates a
diverse group of girls through middle and high school. The students at GLOW come from 4 counties in
Southeastern North Carolina, with many coming from poverty-stricken backgrounds. Many of these
students experience anxiety, anger management and depression, as a result of their upbringing. GLOW
focuses on three core principles: Leadership, College Success and Health Life Skills, and they believe that
the addition of a Facility Dog to the campus will help boost the morale of these young girls!
DEWEY is a wonderful asset to GLOW Academy. She will be able to help students cope with emotional
outbursts, as well as reduce their anxieties. Time spent with DEWEY will be used as a motivating tool in
the classroom, and a positive incentive for the girls to continue reaching the high academic goals the
Academy sets for all their students. DEWEY will also teach empathy, healthy coping skills, and
We are thrilled for this partnership with GLOW Academy, and cannot wait to see the wonderful work
this team will accomplish.
