Types of DOGs Trained
paws4people TM trains two types of dogs. Assistance Dogs and Community Dogs.
Categories of Assistance Dogs (AD):
The two basic categories of ADs are the Direct-Service AD and the Indirect-Service AD.
Direct-Service Assistance Dogs
Dogs that are trained, certified and placed with a specific individual who has a definable physical, neurological, psychological and/or emotional disability or disabilities. This individual is also known as a Private Placement Client. The direct-service AD provides the Client with assistance in conducting everyday life skills thus enabling them to perform more independently than they otherwise would without their assistance dog (AD).

Service Dog – Physical or Neurological Disability [SD-PND] – [Level 4]
Service Dog – Psychiatric [SD-PSY] – [Level 3]
Service Dog – Seizure Response [SD-SER] – [Level 3]
Service Dog – LASER Designation Retrieving [SD-LDR] – [Level 3]
Rehabilitative Assistance Dog – Psychiatric [RAD-PSY] – [Level 2]
“Indirect-Service Assistance Dog” (Also known as “Facility Dog)
Dogs that are trained, certified and placed with a specific individual who will use the AD within his/her profession to provide educational instruction or therapeutic interventions, methodologies or protocols to students with “special needs” or individuals with physical, neurological, psychological and/or emotional disability or disabilities. This individual is known as a Private Placement Handler (PPH). [Note: Another name for this category of Assistance Dog is a Facility Dog.A Facility Dog is the nomenclature for an Assistance Dog that works within a specific type of Facility, such as a school, specialized medical treatment facility, etc.]
